Quick, gut-friendly overnight oats with a probiotic boost — perfect for busy mornings.
Overnight oats are a brilliant make-ahead breakfast that nourishes your gut microbiome. The combination of soluble fibre from oats and live probiotics from yoghurt creates a synbiotic effect — feeding the beneficial bacteria already living in your digestive tract.
Prep time: 5 minutes | Serves: 1
Combine the base. In a jar or container, mix the oats, chia seeds, and ground flaxseed.
Add the liquids. Pour in the milk and stir well to combine. Make sure the oats are fully submerged.
Layer the toppings. Add the sliced banana and berries on top. Don't stir — let them sit as a layer.
Refrigerate overnight. Cover and leave in the fridge for at least 6 hours, or overnight.
Add the probiotic boost. In the morning, top with the live natural yoghurt just before eating. This preserves the live cultures, which can be sensitive to temperature changes.
Tip: For a low-FODMAP version, use lactose-free yoghurt and swap milk for a lactose-free alternative.
This recipe is ideal as a daily breakfast that consistently feeds your gut microbiome. The fibre and probiotics work together to support regular digestion, stable energy levels, and even mood — thanks to the gut-brain connection.
